AD-1211 is an opioid drug with analgesic properties, a derivative of 1-substituted-4-prenyl-piperazine, a mixed opioid receptor agonist-antagonist. First synthesized in the 1970s by Dainippon Pharmaceutical. (The (S)-enantiomers in this drug are more active than the (R)-enantiomers. The pharmacological properties of AD-1211 are similar to pentazocine. This drug is structurally unrelated to most opioid drugs. The special feature of the drug is that it has atypical opioid action, with little development of dependence or tolerance after long-term administration, as shown in studies on rodents.
